Mario & Sonic Rio 2016 Olympics Arcade Game

A while back Nintendo and Sega announced the next edition in the popular Mario vs. Sonic Olympics franchise. They also announced that the game would make it into arcades in Japan and now we have the first look at the machines themselves. Looks like a lot of fun! We're looking forward to playing the Wii U version next year!

Mario & Sonic 2014 Bundle Price Confirmed!

The bundle, which comes with the full game and a blue Wii Remote Plus, will retail for $59.99. That's only $10 more than the game by itself! It'd be nice if the remote was customized with art from the game, but it's a great dean nonetheless.

New details about Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games

Nintendo announced today some new details about the upcoming Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The game will be released for the Wii U on November 15th in the US. The game will feature online multiplayer for the first time and take advantage of the Wii Motion Plus controller. Additionally they will be selling a version of the game that will have blue Wii Motion Plus controller included. I'm looking forward to this release! The original Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Vancouver 2010) was my favorite game in the series. I really hope they bring back the "Olympic Village" aspect from that game.

Lastly, Nintendo also debuted a new trailer for the game today. It looks like it may include a sneak peek at the opening cinematic. Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games Announced!!

This morning Nintendo announced the next installment of the Mario and Sonic Olympic Games series durring their Nintendo Direct. I was hoping for this but didn't expect it to get announced today. CLURING IN HD!!!! The Vancouver 2010 installment of the series was my favorite so far so I'm very excited to see this version! I've included a few screen caps and the description from Nintendo below...

Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games: The game includes a variety of sports including curling, skiing, snowboarding, figure skating pairs and snowboard slopestyle. Different events might use the Wii Remote Plus controller, Wii U GamePad or both. In addition to realistic events, the game also includes those set in the worlds of Sonic and Mario that let players perform moves not possible in real life. Launch details and timing will be announced at a later date.

Mexican Gymnast Elsa Garcia Rodriguez Blancas Performed to Zelda Musical Medley

This has been floating around the web for a few days now, but it's just too cool for me not to share here. Mexican gymnast Elsa Garcia Rodriguez Blancas performed her floor routine at the London 2012 games to a medley of music from the popular Legend of Zelda video game franchise. I'm bummed I missed the original performance but I have since been able to catch it online. Being a huge fan of the Zelda franchise myself I was very excited when I heard about this. In interviews following the performance she has talked about her love for the Zelda games and has even compared her routine to the game saying, "I thought of Link running around through the forest, mountains, caves, and how agile he is, it was funny to think that I was doing something similar but in my own way. I liked what it reminded me of: the whole concept of never giving up on my quest." She also commented on the attention she is getting from fans of the games saying, "I’m surprised that so many people have recognized the song. It’s a win-win situation. I like the fact that gamers want more people to recognize beautiful game soundtracks and I want more people to get involved in gymnastics."

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympics - 3DS Boxart

Here is the, very busy looking, cover art for the 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympics. I'm not looking forward to this one as much as the Wii version. I had a chance to play this at E3 this year and while it had it's moments of fun a lot of the games require you to move the 3DS around which breaks the 3D effect the moment you do so. This doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for the Wii version though! I'm hoping it will be the best yet!

Mario & Sonic get a blue Wii bundle in Europe

In honor of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Nintendo announced plans to launch a special blue Wii bundle in Europe this November. Despite the Sonic theme, the system (one of the new-model, GameCube-free Wiis) is a lighter blue than the hedgehog. It will include the game, a matching Wii Remote Plus, and likely a Nunchuk in the same color.

Top 10 Olympics Videogames According to IGN

I'll start by noting that this article and it's corresponding list is old. It was published in 2008. While it is interesting to get someones take on it like this I really disagree with a lot of this and most of the games aren't official Olympic games. But I digress, there have not been on over abundance of great officially licensed Olympic video games. So without further ado here are the Top 10 Olympic Video Games... according to IGN... from 2008...

Now you see what I mean?! A lot of these games are unheard of! The fact that two games from Beijing 2008 is pretty telling that this guy didn't have much to go on. Track and Field is a great pick along with the original Mario and Sonic Olympic game. I really think Nagano Winter Olympics '98 for the N64 should have been included on the this list. I loved that game! I have played a demo of the Beijing 2008 and found it painfully dull. I am eager to try the Winter Games and Summer Games originally developed by Epyx for the Commodore 64. Thankfully these games are available through the Virtual Console service on the Wii. I may give them a shot sometime and do a little write up on here about them.

Release Date and Cover Art for Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games

So the artwork I posted a little while back turned out not to be the official artwork. Sega has announced the release date for the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games along with the final cover art. I imagine this news was released to coincide with the one year to go celebrations taking place today. The game will debut in the US on on November 15th and in Europe on November 18th. The cover art sure looks busy. For better or worse it seems to be in line with the rest of the graphic identity for London 2012. Dare I say it, but London's tragic look is actually growing on me. I doubt I will ever love it the way I have other games, but I don't hate it all the way I once did. Additionally, it seems the game will come in a yellow box rather than the traditional white for Wii games. This change is not unprecedented. New Super Mario Bros. Wii shipped in a red case and Nintendo has release some of their more mature oriented games in black cases in Japan.
