London 2012 Olympic film "First"

I stumbled across an article about this documentary this morning. The film revolves around 12 first time Olympians competing at the London 2012 games. Hopefully it will end up on video for everyone to enjoy!

London 2012 Olympic Games BBC [Blu-ray] (2012)

I ran across this while poking around online today. It seems from all the reviews I have read that the NBC home video release was somewhat of a bust. I have high hopes for this release though. This set was produced by the BBC and includes the full opening ceremony 7 hours of highlights and the closing ceremony.  I don't know if I'll ever be able to get a hold of a copy, it's currently going for $80 on amazon.com, but I remain hopeful that I can catch it someday.

NBC's coverage of the 2012 London Olympics is available on Blu-ray and DVD!

Amazon has listed both Blu-ray and DVD editions of NBC's London 2012 coverage highlights. I know I haven't written much about the London Games as they were happening, but I intend to do a write up soon. In the meantime you order one or both of these sets from the links below. Mexican Gymnast Elsa Garcia Rodriguez Blancas Performed to Zelda Musical Medley

This has been floating around the web for a few days now, but it's just too cool for me not to share here. Mexican gymnast Elsa Garcia Rodriguez Blancas performed her floor routine at the London 2012 games to a medley of music from the popular Legend of Zelda video game franchise. I'm bummed I missed the original performance but I have since been able to catch it online. Being a huge fan of the Zelda franchise myself I was very excited when I heard about this. In interviews following the performance she has talked about her love for the Zelda games and has even compared her routine to the game saying, "I thought of Link running around through the forest, mountains, caves, and how agile he is, it was funny to think that I was doing something similar but in my own way. I liked what it reminded me of: the whole concept of never giving up on my quest." She also commented on the attention she is getting from fans of the games saying, "I’m surprised that so many people have recognized the song. It’s a win-win situation. I like the fact that gamers want more people to recognize beautiful game soundtracks and I want more people to get involved in gymnastics."

United Kingdom Pavilion in Epcot is Selling Commemorative Olympic Merchandise

While Disney Theme Park Merchandise hasn’t developed anything specifically for the games there is an assortment of Olympic-themed items at the United Kingdom Pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase. Here is a quote from Sylvie Brumbaugh, Product Developer for World Showcase, with a little background and more details... "With the games taking place in London, I thought it was important to have the United Kingdom Pavilion carry some kind of merchandise to commemorate this event,” explained Sylvie. “I worked directly with the United States Olympic Committee to identify a small assortment of items including T-shirts, mugs, plush and a few other things.”

I saw lots of stuff like this as we were shopping in Target today. The Olympic buzz is building!
As a side note, this is my first attempt at posting from my mobile phone. I guess we'll see how it goes but it's my hope that if this is successful I'll be able to post more frequently about Olympic related stuff as it pops up in my daily life. 'Survival' by MUSE is the Official Song of London 2012 Olympic Games

I love this song!! Very operatic and epic! I am officially pumped for the Olympics to start...

The London Olympics will adopt Muse's new song "Survival" as the official track of this year's Games. The song will play during sporting sessions, as athletes enter stadiums and for the lead-ups to medal ceremonies.
"It's a huge honor to have the track chosen as such a major part of the London 2012 Olympic Games," said frontman Matthew Bellamy in a release. "I wrote it with the Games in mind as it expresses a sense of conviction and determination to win."

I'll be honest... I was not expecting these at all and I was shocked and thrilled at the same time when I first read about these. I noticed that nowhere in the press release does it mentioned the olympics though. It seems as if this license is directly with Team Great Britain and not the IOC directly. Someone at Team USA missed a great opportunity at getting in on this one! I would LOVE to get my hands on just one of these, but given that they will only be available in the UK it looks like my chances are slim. James Bond to Open the 2012 Olympic Games!

How did I miss this news?! Following a personal invitation from the Queen, Daniel Craig shot an introductory film for the games in character as 007.

2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the Bond films, which makes the introduction, entitled “The Arrival,” doubly special. In the short, Bond is informed of his mission at Buckingham Palace then flown via helicopter to Olympic Stadium in Stratford, east London, where he parachutes into the arena.

The short intro is reportedly being directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) who is also serving as the creative director of the London 2012 opening ceremony. What a great way to open the games!
