U.S. Snowboarding unveils Sochi 2014 Olympic uniforms

Greg Dacyshyn, Chief Creative Officer at Burton Snowboards, said the following through a press release...

“We’re really proud that the 2014 uniform builds on Burton’s legacy of creating fun, unconventional designs that stray from the formal, traditional look of most uniforms. The vintage quilt and flag print of the jacket combined with the corduroy pants give the uniform a ‘heirloom hippie’ vibe that lines up with snowboarding’s laid-back culture while paying respect to America’s longstanding creative heritage. It will stand out in Sochi for sure.”

I saw lots of stuff like this as we were shopping in Target today. The Olympic buzz is building!
As a side note, this is my first attempt at posting from my mobile phone. I guess we'll see how it goes but it's my hope that if this is successful I'll be able to post more frequently about Olympic related stuff as it pops up in my daily life. Let me know if you have any feedback or if there is something you would like to see more of. I'd love to hear from you!

Burton Unveils 2010 U.S. Snowboard Team Uniforms

Burton has unveiled the 2010 U.S. Snowboard Team Uniforms and I must say they are pretty unexpected and pretty awesome at the same time. Well done...

"What's also brilliant is the technology infused in these two street wear-like pieces of apparel. Both the pants and jacket are made of waterproof, breathable Gore-Tex for maximum on-snow performance. We're not sure the chenille crest adds any superhero powers, but it sure looks nice. " Via.

President Obama Announces New White House Office of Olympic, Paralympic and Youth Sport

WASHINGTON – Today, President Barack Obama announced the formation of the White House Office of Olympic, Paralympic and Youth Sport.

This permanent White House office will promote the values of the Olympic Movement and encourage increased youth participation in athletics. The primary function of the Office will be to enhance awareness of the Olympic Movement through promotion of its fundamental principles at the federal level.

President Obama said, "It is an important goal of my administration to give our nation’s children every possible tool they need to grow, learn and succeed in life. A key part of this is increasing access to healthy, constructive activities like sports for our nation’s children. Too many American kids – particularly those in urban areas – have no access to organized sporting activities. Sports are an important way to instill values, judgment and teamwork in our nation’s kids, and this new office reflects our commitment to giving all our children a chance to thrive. As the International Olympic Committee moves forward with their selection process we hope that this new office can serve as a model for youth involvement worldwide."

The White House Office of Olympic, Paralympic and Youth Sport will:

  • Recommend federal policies and programs to the President to enhance opportunities and access for youth participation in sport, with particular focus on youth in urban areas
  • Foster and encourage youth sporting, educational and cultural events involving Olympic values-based programs and the participation of U.S. Olympians and Paralympians

The Office will also work in coordination with appropriate executive departments and agencies, including the Departments of Education and Health and Human Services, to:

  • Engage in outreach to state and local government officials, nonprofit organizations and the private sector
  • Coordinate federal resources, and act as liaison to, any organizing committee for an Olympic and Paralympic Games hosted in the United States
  • And work closely with the United States Olympic Committee and national sport governing bodies to increase access and opportunities for youth to participate in sports.

Bode Miller leaning toward retirement?

The ever popular and sometimes controversial Bode Miller may not participate in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. He made a big splash in Torino 2006 with a huge Nike sponsorship and campaign. (Join Bode)

"I've said it for five years and I haven't retired yet but in this particular case ... it's probably likely," Miller said an interview. "It's just something that comes along for every athlete. ... I'm not decided one way or another. I just think it's unlikely that I would go. It could happen."

An amazing day for Team USA in Beijing today!

Phelps wins legendary Gold #8 with help from fellow Team USA swimmers.

Some may say Dara Torres lost. I saw not only did she win by the mere fact that she was competing with swimmers half her age, the Silver medals are nothing to be ashamed of.

Team USA's Dream Team 2.0 shows Spain how to play good basketball.

I don't think the USOC had any idea that things would play out like this when they started using the phrase "Amazing Awaits" as their slogan.

USA wins Gold in men's 4x100 relay!!

What an astonishing race!!! We were on our feet cheering from here! Those guys deserve that medal. The word "amazing" is insufficient to describe the win.

ESPN says,

Before the men's 4x100 relay final, French swimmer Alain Bernard said they'd "smash" the Americans. During Monday's race, they were about to. But Jason Lezak caught Bernard at the wall to win gold by .08 seconds and give Michael Phelps his second gold of the Games as his chase to history stayed alive.

USA Olympic trials begin

The trials began this weekend for US athletes hoping to land a spot on the team bound for Beijing. We caught some of the track and swimming trials on TV this evening. I absolutely love watching this stuff. People pushing themselves to the limits... the hope and excitement that goes with competing for not only your personal best but also for your family friends and your country. More than a few amazing moments played out including two World Records broken. And this is only the trials!! I love it! Bring on the summer games!! Go Team USA!!!
