London 2012 reveals plans for closing ceremony in Beijing

Could be interesting? I think it's cool that London is tryng to appeal to a broader audience that has been typical in the past, but I just hope it doesn't come off as trying to hard.

From GamesBids:
David Beckham, accompanied by talent show winner Leona Lewis, will be arriving at the Closing Ceremony of the Beijing Summer Olympic Games this August in a red double-decker bus, symbolizing London and the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

The Times reports the open-top bus is now en route by container ship to China.

Once in Beijing’s National Stadium Beckham is expected to hop off and kick footballs with children representing every country in the world.

At the next stop inside the arena Lewis will perform to a global television audience of about 1.5 billion, then the two stars will link arms as 40 dancers from groups as diverse as London’s hip-hop scene and the Royal Opera “strut their stuff”, reports the Times. The two million pound “extravaganza” lasts just eight minutes.

At the same time there will be a show in Trafalgar Square and street parties in 10 other cities, including Cardiff, Glasgow and Manchester.

Also on the bus will be newly elected London Mayor Boris Johnson who will receive the Olympic host flag from Jacques Rogge, head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The theme of London 2012's portion of the Closing Ceremony is journey and transformation.

Bill Morris, director of culture, events and education for London 2012 said, “this is to be London’s calling card, showcasing what our Games are going to be all about”.
