London 2012 unveils new stadium design, maintains ugly logo....

On 7 November 2007, the Olympic Delivery Authority revealed designs for the Olympic Stadium. Here are some details provided on the official website:

Where is it?
The Olympic Stadium will be at the south of the Olympic Park, within easy walking distance of the Olympic Village and warm up facilities.

Getting ready
Team Stadium is the preferred bidder to design and build the Olympic Stadium. The design was unveiled in November 2007.

The land will be cleared of existing industrial buildings and prepared, by mid-2008, for Team Stadium will take possession of the site. Construction is due to start by the time the Beijing 2008 Games are underway.

The Stadium will be built by 2011, leaving time for test events to take place before the Games.

During the Games
The Olympic Stadium will seat 80,000 and will be the main venue for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. All Athletics events will take place in the Stadium as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, watched by millions of people around the world.

After the Games
After the Games the Stadium will be converted to a 25,000 seat Athletics stadium, providing a lasting legacy with a range of facilities available for elite competitors and the local community.

They also posted a pretty cool video promoting the announcement which you can view HERE.

I think it looks pretty cool and the video is a lot of fun. I still wish they would revise the ugly logo but it seems they won't budge on that so it's time to get used to living with it unfortunately. I think they could and would generate a lot more excitement for the games if they would show some backbone and say the flubbed the first logo and introduced a new one. But like I said, seems like they are attached to this one. I'll try to ignore it, but 4+ years is a long time to try to ignore such an atrocity.
